Welcome to the first London Workshop on Social Connection

This event aims to bring together researchers from London and beyond who study the topic of human social connection in different ways, including research on friendship, cultural engagement, neuroscience, development and more.

Some questions we may explore include
  • how do people make new social connections?

  • what can neuroscience tell us about social connections?

  • how much can context / circumstance create a friendship?

  • what is homophily and why does it matter?

  • how does embodiment contribute to shared experiences?

  • what does the development of shared experience in infancy and childhood look like?

  • why are shared cultural experiences of dance, theatre, music, and art so important in building social communities?

  • how does online communication change things?

  • what do we still need to learn about social connections?
